Malaysia VEP Registration for Singapore Cars: Complete 2025 Guide with Links & Tips

Malaysia VEP Registration for Singapore Cars

The Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) system for Malaysia can be complex and frustrating.

Based on my experience navigating this process, I’ve created this comprehensive guide to help you succeed.

From initial registration to RFID installation, I’ll walk you through each step.

Sharing crucial DO’s and DON’Ts that will save you time and prevent common mistakes.

Follow this proven blueprint to get your VEP approved efficiently.

WARNING: Avoid service providers promising quick RFID tags without vehicle inspection. This likely involves bribery, as JPJ VEP installation centers require the car to be physically present.

Required Websites (Use in order)

1. JPJ VEP website: https://vep.jpj.gov.my/#!/

JPJ VEP Website

2. TC Sens website (RFID provider): https://vepams.jpj.gov.my/ep-portal-fe/

TIP: Always use a computer instead of mobile device, as the interfaces aren’t optimized for small screens.

Step 1: Submit Your VEP Application On The JPJ Website

Create your username and password. If you forgot an existing password, do a password reset (note that JPJ and TC Sens password resets are separate).

Understanding the Three Account Categories

Category Importance Description
Vehicle Owner Most important Person who owns the vehicle (multiple owners possible under one Profile)
Driver Important Person who will drive in JB (multiple drivers possible)
Profile Not important Just for login credentials (email and contact details only)

PROFILE TIP: If stuck with old email address showing “NRIC is registered,” change one digit in your NRIC for Profile section (this information isn’t verified). Make sure to use correct NRIC in Vehicle Owner and Driver sections.

For Second-Hand Vehicle Owners Alert

If you encounter an error when entering chassis/vehicle number, this indicates the previous owner registered a VEP. Stop your current application and proceed directly to Step 2 for deregistration.

For Non-Singaporeans

If you are a Singapore PR, select “No” for Singapore PR and “No” for Work Permit. Detailed guide here

Do’s and Don’ts

DO:

  • Submit Vehicle Owner information exactly as in NRIC (including name, address, hanyu pinyin)
  • Copy and paste from Vehicle Log Card for vehicle details (COE, engine, chassis numbers)
  • Add all drivers who will use the car
  • Click the confirmation email link from JPJ to activate TC Sens access
  • Print VEP Registration Confirmation for your vehicle

DON’T:

  • Go directly to TC Sens website without clicking email link
  • Submit company vehicle as private ownership (can’t be fixed)
  • Proceed if COE expires in less than 6 months

IMPORTANT NOTE: The most common error is submitting company-owned vehicles as private ownership. This can only be fixed through deregistration (Step 2).

IMPORTANT ALERTS:

  • Short COE validity: If your COE expires in less than 6 months, your VEP will not be approved. Simply print the VEP Registration Confirmation Slip and keep it in your vehicle as proof of registration.
  • New vehicle owners: If your vehicle is not second-hand or doesn’t have a previously registered VEP, you can skip Step 2 entirely and continue with Step 3.

When using your own car, you need to apply for VEP. For a hassle-free experience, just book a Singapore to JB private taxi instead. The driver will pick you up from any point in Singapore and directly transfer you to JB or other destinations in Malaysia.

  • SingPass digital NRIC accepted
  • Copy/paste into Word then save as PDF
Vehicle Log Card PDF from One Motoring Use “Save PDF” button at bottom of Vehicle Details page
Vehicle Ownership Transfer Letter Optional Not needed if transaction >12 months ago

Process Timeline

  • Fastest completion: 8 hours
  • Slowest approval: 6 weeks
  • Current average (as of Jan 18, 2025): Within 1 day
  • No proper queue system – later submissions may be approved earlier

Tracking Your Application

  1. Save the 25-digit reference number after submission
  2. Check status regularly on TC Sens website
  3. Status progression: Pending verification → Verified → Deregistered
  4. If blocked after showing “Deregistered” for over a week, submit a second deregistration

NOTE: The system now allows checking status with vehicle number instead of reference number.

Do’s and Don’ts

DO:

  • Be patient with OTP (delays of 5 minutes to hours common)
  • Use computer for One Motoring access
  • Check status regularly
  • Submit second deregistration if still blocked after a week
  • Save reference number in a document

DON’T:

  • Attempt deregistration on JPJ VEP website
  • Email JPJ (they won’t reply)
  • Use mobile for One Motoring
  • Expect email notifications (though recently implemented)

IMPORTANT: Some deregistrations may require multiple attempts. For cases rejected three times without valid reason, professional assistance may be needed.

Step 3: Set Up Your Touch ‘n Go eWallet

Touch N Go EWallet Setup

eWallet Registration Steps:

  1. Sign up as a foreigner using Passport ID (not NRIC)
  2. Enter your passport number to create your profile
  3. Tap on your name and complete eKYC verification (takes a few days)

IMPORTANT NOTE: eKYC verification has been mandatory since 20 December 2024. You must complete this identity verification process, which typically takes 1-2 days, before you can access the VEP JPJ section in the app.

EWALLET ACCOUNT ERRORS SOLUTION: If you made errors in account creation (wrong ID type, typo, or duplicate account), follow the steps below:

Step 1: Contact Touch n Go Careline: https://support.tngdigital.com.my/hc/en-my/requests/new?ticket_form_id=360001558914 – Careline provides better support than “Chat with Us” in-app function.

Step 2: After submitting your query, create the follow-up account mentioned in their email response for better tracking and resolution.

Post-Verification Setup:

  1. Launch Touch n Go eWallet app after verification
  2. Navigate: “More” → “Transport” section → “VEP JPJ” icon
  3. Click “verify” and update your full NRIC including alphabets
  4. Click “Save” to submit

For Non-Singaporeans, you should provide nationality and passport number only (no Singapore NRIC needed) and complete eVerification in the app. Follow the link for detailed guide: https://support.tngdigital.com.my/hc/en-my/articles/41235762881433-How-does-the-system-work-for-Malaysian-Users-holding-a-Singaporean-PR

Other Nationalities • Passport

Essential Documents for All:

  • Vehicle Log Card: Submit your log card and ensure all details match JPJ records from your earlier input.
  • Insurance Certificate: Submit an unencrypted PDF; if password-protected, take screenshots, paste into Word, and save as PDF — avoid sending locked files.

What to Do After Submission

  • 📩 Check your email for the VEP registration confirmation.
  • 🖨️ Print the confirmation and keep it in your car when driving to JB.
  • ⏱️ Be patient — there’s no queue system. As of 1 Mar 2025, VEPs are usually approved within 3 hours during office hours (9 am–5 pm); fastest was 3 minutes.
  • 🛠️ If you made a typo, you’ll get an email with amendment instructions.
    • Just log in and accept the changes — approval is usually immediate.

⚠️ Common Issues & Fixes

  • 🔄 If you entered incorrect info on the JPJ website, you can amend it on the TC Sens site. The correct info will later sync with JPJ.
  • 📱 Most rejections happen because your Touch ‘n Go eWallet phone number or NRIC doesn’t match the Vehicle Owner’s details. Double-check your submission before finalizing.
  • ❌ If your VEP is rejected, review your documents and resubmit with correct info.
