So you’ve arrived at Mersing, the “gateway to Tioman”!
But if you’re reading this, you’re looking to know how to get to Tioman Island from Mersing.
Well, to get to Tioman, you’ll have to take a ferry ride—Cataferry or Bluewater Express—from Mersing Jetty.
Both ferries have their advantages and disadvantages, and which you choose ultimately boils down to your budget and preferences.
We’ll go through each ferry option below.
Tip:
- Arrive Mersing in time for your ferry without any stress by hiring a Singapore to Mersing Jetty taxi. We used JBTAXI.SG, which provided us a seamless, relaxing journey.
- During bad weather, ferry schedules will be affected. Always check with your ferry operator

From our past experience, Cataferry is definitely the recommended choice, and we’ll tell you why.
Its spacious seats, onboard facilities, and overall cleanliness make for a more comfortable and hassle-free experience.
But what we liked most about Cataferry is how well it fared in choppy waters, providing a smooth ferry ride. For those prone to seasickness, this might be a factor to consider.
Cataferry stops at 3 piers along its Tioman Island route:
- Tekek
- Genting
- Paya
Notes:
- Visit Cataferry to book your tickets.
- Cataferry’s prices are not fixed. Kindly refer to the Cataferry official website for the latest price list.
- For check-in and boarding, arrive at least 20 minutes before departure.
- Ferry ride takes about 1 hour 15 minutes.

2. Bluewater Express

Cons:
- Older ferry
- No assigned seating
- Cramped seating (no incline)
- Customer support available only during trips
Ferry Price Range:
Standard (One-Way):
RM 60 (Adult)

Bluewater is an older ferry that feels like its age. The ambience on Bluewater is akin to taking a bus, especially when it gets crowded and there are no assigned seatings.
Plus, the ferry can feel less stable, which can make you a little queasy when the sea is rough
But if you are travelling on a budget and are willing to make do with the more basic amenities, Bluewater is still a decent ferry to take.
Bluewater Express stops at 5 piers along its Tioman Island route:
- Genting

- Tekek
- Air Batang
- Salang
Notes:
- Visit Bluewater Express to book your tickets.
- For check-in and boarding, arrive at least 60-90 minutes before departure.
- Ferry ride can take 2-3 hours.
